Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Who doesn’t like to play dress up, right? Our pals at Ahead With Horses will host their Annual Costume Day on Saturday, October 29th, 2016. Volunteers are needed from 9 am – 4 pm. Available shifts are 9 am – 12 pm; 11 am – 2 pm and 1 pm – 4 pm. Volunteers who plan to attend from 11 am – 2 pm are asked to wear a costume. Fun, right? Volunteers will assist with set-up, running game booths, arts and crafts, handing out candy and possibly help with leading the horses and clean up. Back on my Feet Greater Los Angeles invites you to take part in their 2nd annual free community Flower Market Fun Run through Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, February 11. The 4-mile community run will include giveaways, refreshments and snacks! Sign up today by clicking HERE.
Back on My Feet combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources.
Join TREE MUSKETEERS Tree Team and youth leaders on the second and fourth Saturday of the month to care for trees in El Segundo's urban forests!
Activities include watering, mulching, weeding, pruning and litter abatement. Tree Musketeers provides the tools and know-how, you just need to come ready to "dig in" to your community.
Youth 10-17 unaccompanied by parents must submit a parent consent form online here: https://treemusketeers.org/parental-consent-form/. Youth under 10 must be accompanied.
Our pals at Michelson Found Animals Culver City are hosting a big adoption event with several other animal rescues in the area with one goal – to find furr-ever homes for as many of the adoptable cats and dogs as possible! Create Now is hosting an arts festival on Saturday, May 13th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Venice Hope Park, located across the street from Create Now’s facility near STAPLES. Dozens of kids will perform in a Talent Show and earn prizes.
There will be a DJ, fun arts and crafts activities, face painting, balloon twisters, popular children's characters and giveaways for the disadvantaged families in the local neighborhood.
Come cheer on young performers, and then attend Create Now’s After-Party from 12:00-2:00 pm at their center where you can meet some of the youth and learn more about Create Now. River LA is collaborating with communities and local stakeholders to reclaim street ends along the LA River for public use. And this summer, they have tons of events lined up to activate these spaces. On May 27th, join Broccoli City and River LA for a celebration of diversity and nature along the LA River. DJ + food + loads of fun await you along the river.
Volunteers will help set-up and decorate, escort seniors, help manage lines, serve dinner, act as wait staff, hand out thank you gifts, etc. Volunteers will need to be able to be on their feet and enjoying interacting with others. Around 200 attendees are expected at this event and they'll really need some help to pull off this event! Participants must be high school age or above, please! Join us the weekend of December 1 and 2, 2018 – RAIN OR SHINE!
The Giveaway is a single-day event that provides free, gently used clothing to more than 2,000 women, men, and children at the start of the holiday season.
We need 120 volunteers to help sort clothing, greet our guests, keep our giveaway tables freshly and fully stocked, and assist with event cleanup. Breakfast and lunch are provided for volunteers.
The Clothing Giveaway takes place at our headquarters in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles:

Parking restrictions in the area are eased for the event.
Volunteers must be at least 17 years-old. Community service credit/certificates will be given to all students.
