\n VOLUNTEER SELECTION\n
\n\n OC Animal Care requires that all potential volunteers go throug h an extensive selection process. This process ensures that OC Animal Care is selecting volunteers that best fit the needs of the program and unders tand the unique environment in which they will work. The selection process may take up to two months. Please note that applicants will be selected b ased on the current needs of OC Animal Care.\n
\n\n Time Commitment\n OC Animal Care requests that you commit to a minimum of eight hours per month for three months. This commitment ensures that the program will operate smoothly and that the maximum benefit is derived for the animals. \n

\n OC Animal Care staff provide training to all

Our program goal is to create a positive environment that promotes self-confidence and self -esteem through the experiences we provide. The program is dedicated to pr oviding all youth with the highest quality of recreation and educational e xperiences for boys and girls ages 6 to 12 years-old.\n

\n\n We have a short orientation every Saturday morning at 8:45am in Shado w Hills. (Rain will normally cancel and we are closed for major 3-day holi day weekends.) \n

\n\n Volunteers must be at least 12 t o volunteer. If you are under 18\, a parent or guardian must accompany you to sign some paperwork. Closed-toe shoes (should be comfortable because t here is a lot of walking)\, a shirt with sleeves (T-shirts are fine\; No t ank tops) and long pants are required. If planning to stay for the entire day (till approx. 2 – 2:30pm) then bringing water and a sack lunch/snack i s recommended. Other days and times available for volunteering will be gi ven at the orientation.\n

ers assist the instructor with the children and horses\, which includes\,
leading horses and spotting\, which is walking alongside the horse to ensu
re child’s safety and position changes on the horse. Other activities migh
t include: grooming horses\, cleaning tack\, gardening (raking\, weeding\,

\n Each year\, our volunteers contribute 500 0+ hours\, accounting for almost 80% of our services. If you're interested in promoting peace in the lives of foster youth\, join our community and bring your knowledge and compassion to those who will truly benefit. It's a truly rewarding experience!\n
\n\n Primarily our volunteers connect with youth on Saturdays from 9am – 1pm in an environment that focuses on creativity\, education\, life skills building\, health an d wellness. Under the guidance of our staff\, volunteers are given the too ls to work one-to-one with youth\, developing strong bonds that leave a la sting impression. \n

\n\n Second Chan ces Leadership Program was designed to build and develop the self-confiden ce\, life and leadership skills of youth through interactive learning\, in -class discussions\, presentations\, panels\, workshops\, and exploratory field-trips. Upon conclusion\, participants will be able to demonstrate th eir understanding and knowledge of a leader’s core essentials through a se rvice learning project\, weekly homework and journaling assignments\, disc ussions\, presentations\, and a culmination project.\n
\n\n Our youth will become ‘Ambassadors’ allowing them to become well versed in the theo retical and practical application of a leader’s core essentials and be cap able of utilizing them within their home\, school\, and community. This al lows them to personally develop through leadership programs and have acces s to tools and resources that not only helps such youth to apply to colleg e\, but also prepares them to succeed in life.\n
\n\n The Leadership Program consists of 5 modules that are 8 weeks in length. The modules expa nds our youth knowledge base by providing significant exposure to real-lif e work experiences\, hands-on activities that challenge their decision mak ing process\, and intense cross-cultural volunteer projects both locally a nd abroad.
