Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Every Sunday volunteers sign in at 7am and out at 1pm to help greet at the entrance gates and offer information about ONEgeneration services, help at the Bagel or Book booths, or assist a Farmers or small business for the day. This event is a walk in position so you can come any Sunday that you are available from 7am to 1pm, no partial shifts.
When volunteers sign out at 1pm they will receive a completion letter for their hours if needed.

Join Long Beach Water to share your feedback on Long Beach Water’s services and communications. They’ll incorporate what they hear to help improve Long Beach Water’s programs and services to best meet community needs and interests.

Would you like to serve as a judge for the Best House decorating contest?
Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance (WANA) and Daisy Avenue Christmas Tree Lane are asking for volunteers to help judge in the Best House decorating contest. Homes are decorated along Daisy Avenue & along Maine Avenue.
Friday, December 13, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Afterwards, everyone will go to Starbucks for some warm refreshments.

They would like to invite you to come and look at the decorated homes and the decorated Daisy Avenue Christmas Tree Lane on Daisy Avenue between Pacific Coast Highway and Willow Street. The lights turn on every night at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and the whole street becomes a winter wonderland. This year’s theme is Christmas Spirit on Daisy.
Volunteer with the Office of Sustainability to help care for the native plant restoration area at Willow Springs Park! This is a 12 acre restoration area filled with native coastal sage scrub and wetland plants. It features hills and low-lying areas that form a natural gulch. Volunteers will spread mulch and remove invasive species to help the native plants thrive.

Parking is available at 2755 Orange Avenue.

The mission of CNPS is to conserve California native plants and their natural habitats, and increase understanding, appreciation, and horticultural use of native plants. We achieve this mission at the native garden days at Point Vicente Interpretive Center through community based native gardening. Program Description: Volunteers learn about California native gardening which gazing out at the Pacific Ocean at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. The garden provides important habitat for endangered species and inspires people to plant local. The volunteer maintenance of the garden is critical to it's success. Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: Volunteers will be pruning, weeding, watering, spreading or collecting native seeds, learning irrigation systems, planting, and mulching the oceanside garden. Time Commitment: 2 hours.
Requirements: Close-toed shoes, clothes for outdoor work. Benefits: Volunteers benefit by receiving a full training on proper garden techniques that they can use at home and enjoy an enriching educational experience in a beautiful setting. *This project is created, organized and managed by our nonprofit partner.
