Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar

We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

If you have questions about our calendar, or would like to add a listing, please contact calendar@bigsunday.org or submit your event/opportunity via the button below.

Tree Planting
Dec 9 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

More new trees are coming to North Long Beach in 2017!  I am writing to invite you and your groups to volunteer at this tree planting event!

The Port of Long Beach has provided funding to plant 6,000 trees in Long Beach neighborhoods through 2020!  Businesses and community groups are partnering with Housing and Neighborhood Services to provide volunteers at the tree planting events.

Public Works will survey the neighborhood for tree planting locations and Housing and Neighborhood ServicesBureau staff will mail letters to the property owners of all the adjacent sites to notify them that trees will be installed and to provide them with an opportunity to decline them.

Housing and Neighborhood Services Bureau staff will deliver all the trees and tools on planting day.

Welcome Home

“Home” means so much to so many. It’s a place where we feel safe… where we can be ourselves… where we can be with our friends, family, and loved ones. Most of all, home is where a community comes together. Home is where the heart is.

t A Place Called Home, caring staff, supporters and volunteers come together to provide South Central children and teens 8 years old – 21 years old with love, safety, enrichment, training, and opportunities through educational programscounseling, and mentorship. After-school, weekend, and all-day summer programs and services include tutoring and homework support, as well as a full spectrum of instruction in the arts, athletics, dance and music. Our high school dropout recovery partnership with LAUSD is open in the mornings and we provide year-round support for college preparation, SAT tutoring, and college counseling and scholarships. In 2012 we provided support for 68 first-generation college students in local schools and across the country
