Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.
If you have questions about our calendar, or would like to add a listing, please contact calendar@bigsunday.org or submit your event/opportunity via the button below.
Join us for TM@10 at Big Sunday headquarters where we’ll host a different service project each week that benefits a worthy cause! Enjoy good food, good company and good deeds; everyone is welcome. Some of the groups we’ve helped include BookEnds, Quilts with a Divine Quest, and lots of shelters, hospitals and senior facilities around all over town. For more info or to sign up, contact rob@bigsunday.org or click HERE.
Come and join over 1,000 community residents and local service providers in sharing information and resources to the community. This group is currently seeking health and workforce development organizations/entities to provide services in South Los Angeles. All are welcome to attend; booth space is limited. Please contact organization as soon as possible to gather additional information and to sign up. They are also looking for K-12 books to give away to the community. All resources will be accepted.
WE Day California is coming to the Los Angeles area for the first time on Thursday, April 7, 2016, and they want you to join them as a volunteer!
WE Day brings together world-renowned speakers and performers with tens of thousands of youth to celebrate the power young people have to change the world. Students can’t buy a ticket to WE Day – they earn it through active citizenship by participating in one local and global action.
The success of WE Day is largely dependent on our committed volunteers, who take on a variety of roles in helping our staff execute the events. Volunteers have the opportunity to be a part of the excitement of WE Day, sharing in the passion of inspirational speakers and performers, and interacting with youth, educators and honored guests.
An event of this magnitude requires the support of about 1,000 volunteers. Support young people leading local and global change, see world-renowned speakers and performers, and give back to your community in a fun and meaningful way.
For a full description of the roles available and to register, please visit www.weday.com/volunteer. There are many roles for a wide range of skills and interests, for both youth and adults alike!
If you would like more information, please visit www.weday.com/volunteer or email volunteers@freethechildren.com.

Big Sunday’s harbor cruises are awesome! We host a big group of underserved and deserving folks on a special cruise through San Pedro Harbor. Many of these nice people have never been on a boat before! We need volunteers to host, be friendly, hand our donuts (of course!), enjoy one another and enjoy the ride. We call it the “We’re All in the Same Boat Project” and everyone has exactly one job: To meet one new person. For more info or to sign up today, please contact info@bigsunday.org.
The leading cause of homelessness is poverty. Don't miss a social justice panel sponsored by the Tikkun Olam committee of Kehillat Israel Congregation as they explore “Poverty in America” with guest speakers Sasha Abramsky, author of "The American Way of Poverty: How the Other Half Still Lives" and Jessica Bartholow from the Western Center on Law & Poverty. Admission is free, but please RSVP to info@ourki.org
Why wait for Veteran’s Day? At Big Sunday, we love working for and with veterans. We’ll be hosting vets from all over town. Together, we’ll enjoy great games and entertainment. We’ll also be writing letters to soldiers on active duty. Then everyone’s invited for a big and memorable Big Sunday community dinner. It’s a great way to show the vets how much we care.
We are collecting food items for our friends at the Los Angeles VA Ambulatory Care Center. We are collecting canned proteins and instant dinners (i.e. anything where you can just add water).
Lastly, we are also collecting comic books for Operation Gratitude to include in care packages for deployed soldiers.

BTW: Would you or your group be interested in being a sponsor of this event? (Sponsorships start at $1000 and allow us to keep all our programs free!) Contact adam@bigsunday.org.

Once a month, volunteers and community partners come together at the Garden School Foundation’s 24th Street School Garden to have some fun in the sun, enjoy delicious, garden-fresh snacks, and get vital work done that keeps their living classrooms beautiful for the kids they serve. They also have a cooking or gardening workshop during each workday, where volunteers can learn & get inspired about food, from seed to table.
