Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar

We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

If you have questions about our calendar, or would like to add a listing, please contact calendar@bigsunday.org or submit your event/opportunity via the button below.

VFC Children’s Holiday Movie & Toy Sorting @ Venice Family Clinic
Nov 16 @ 9:00 am – Nov 16 @ 4:00 pm

CHM Letterhead

Each year, this event serves a dual purpose as a special holiday treat for 1,000 of Venice Family Clinic's low-income and homeless pediatric patients as well as a fundraiser that earns over $100,000 for VFC’s pediatric medicine program. Volunteers are needed in the weeks leading up to the holiday event to help organize and package the toys and books that will be distributed to the children and families during the event. Some heavy to light lifting is required.  Groups of 6 – 10 people per shift are ideal; shift times are 9 am – 1 pm and/or 1 – 4 pm. VFC would love to have any group ages 14 years+ and they’d happily address any questions you might have in the meantime. Volunteer: 2015 Teen Summit @ UCLA Campus
Nov 21 – Nov 22 all-day

The Los Angeles County Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs is holding its 2015 Teen Summit on Saturday, November 21, 2015.  Over 1000 Los Angeles County teen members of the Boys & Girls Clubs will be invited to the UCLA campusPrint for a fun day full of educational activities and opportunities.  The theme of the 2015 event is based on inclusion and acceptance in today’s society.  We will have positive messages where teens will hear keynote speakers and take part in workshops that cover such issues as online bullying, LGBT issues, teenage suicide, depression and self-acceptance.  The event will feature guest speakers that promote continuing education and those who participate on sports and entertainment panels, automotive industry, media and a few others.  It’s going to be a great day where teens will be inspired to stay in school, respect themselves and others by embracing their differences.

They would not be able to do this event without the assistance of a great team of volunteers and that is why they need your help!  Volunteers will help ensure the program runs smoothly for all participants.

Volunteer opportunities include the following:

  • Volunteer Manager & Assistant – 6 am – 4 pm (2)
  • VIP Escorts – 7 am – 4 pm (10)
  • Speaker Check In & Speaker Room – 6:30 am – 3 pm (6)
  • Set-up & Food and Beverage & Lunch Expo Volunteers – 6 am – 2 pm (8)
  • Registration & Session Selection Volunteers – 7 am – 9:30 am (8)
  • Event Flow and Directional Volunteers – 7:30 am – 4 pm (10)
  • Room Monitors – various times (14)

For volunteer activity descriptions and to sign up to help, please contact Executive Director Los Angeles County Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs Mary Hewitt at 310-303-2869 or MHewitt@BeGreatLA.org.
