We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Outdoor Volunteer Day: White Point Nature Preserve
Jul 23 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Help Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy care for the White Point Native Plant Demonstration Garden by removing invasive weeds, watering native plants, grooming trails and more! Your efforts will help restore important wildlife habitat and create a beautiful place where the community can enjoy being in nature! Volunteers will be working outdoors, so please wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection and be sure to bring drinking water. Thank you for volunteering!

Volunteer: Family Rescue Center @ Family Rescue Center

Join Family Rescue Center for their weekly Saturday distribution of organic food donated from the Calabasas Farmer's Market.  They need happy, helpful volunteers to sort the fruits and vegetables and to hand them out at their center. Four to six volunteers per Saturday is preferable; teens and older, please.

Imagine LA works with volunteers and vulnerable families to break the cycle of homelessness, poverty, and neglect; and help every member thrive!

Their Family Mentorship Program matches a team of volunteer mentors from committed organizations to work directly with a family for 1-2 years. Imagine LA matches every family member with a one-to-one mentor; plus every family gets a Budget Mentor; and other volunteers help with tutoring, career development, childcare, healthcare, meal-planning and more. Imagine LA works.

Today, kids are excelling in school, parents are on career tracks, saving, maintaining budgets, and everyone remains in stable housing.

The Family Mentorship Program is a transformative experience for Families and Mentors alike. For families escaping the cycle of poverty, a mentor like you can make the difference between surviving and thriving.

Youth Leadership Training – Learn Management Skills! @ Tree Musketeers Youth LEADership Center

2003, 09-11 Veronica becomes a Youth Manager

Learn what you need to know to be a manager! Put your ideas into action, learn how to plan, organize, and lead projects and events. This formal volunteer opportunity is open to all area youth in 5th – 12th grades.

The class will be held on July 25, 27, and 28 from 4:00-5:30pm.

Second City Comedy Camp
Jul 25 @ 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Work out your creative energy learning improv, sketch and musical improv, all while having loads of fun and laughs! Weeklong day camps are available thru June, July, and Aug. Ages 8-18yrs • Mon-Fri • 9am-3:30pm • $350 per camp. No previous experience is needed. Camp ends with a free show where the students show off what they’ve learned!

  • Are you interested in promoting healthy lifestyles and helping people improve their health?
  • Are you available to facilitate workshops a few hours a week?

If so, Partners in Care, a nonprofit organization focused on aging and health has a great opportunity for you to make a difference! They are looking for leaders to facilitate Evidenced- based health workshops in areas throughout Los Angeles.

The programs you can facilitate are:

  • Healthier Living (Chronic Disease Self-Management Program) – This six-week workshop is designed for people with chronic conditions. It addresses physical, mental, emotional and social challenges – in an interactive and proactive group setting and is proven to boost health and well-being.

    • This training is also offered in Spanish!
  • Diabetes Self- Management Program – The six-week, evidence-based workshop designed to empower participants through a mutually supportive and interactive education process. Participants learn to take charge and control their diabetes, understand and deal with emotions, manage medications, work with doctors and make weekly action plans for exercise and healthy eating.

    • This training is also offered in Spanish!
  • Matter of Balance- Participants meet for two hours, once or twice a week for a total of eight sessions. They learn to view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and exercise to increase strength and balance.
  • Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program-This program offers low impact exercises and gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility, range of motion and to help maintain muscle strength. Participants meet for one hour twice a week over six weeks.

    • This training is completely online with an online exam at the end.
    • You will need a CPR/AED certification to facilitate this program.
    • Partners in Care will pay for the training and certification if the leader commits to doing a certain number of workshops.

Ideal Abilities and Requirements:

  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exhibits enthusiasm
  • Dependable and consistent
  • Able to read and follow script
  • Comfortable in front of small group
  • Drives own vehicle
