We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Partners in Care: Arthritis Exercise Class @ The Village at Ed Gould Plaza

​Join Partners in Care for their Arthritis Exercise, Session 4 of 12!  

Interested in teaching a similar class?  Please check out the following information:

 

  • Do you enjoy working with people, teaching, and /or public speaking?
  • Are you interested in promoting healthy lifestyles and helping people improve their health?
  • Are you available to facilitate workshops a few hours a week?

If so, Partners in Care, a nonprofit organization focused on aging and health has a great opportunity for you to make a difference! They are looking for leaders to facilitate Evidenced- based health workshops in areas throughout Los Angeles.

The programs you can facilitate are:

  • Healthier Living (Chronic Disease Self-Management Program) – This six-week workshop is designed for people with chronic conditions. It addresses physical, mental, emotional and social challenges – in an interactive and proactive group setting and is proven to boost health and well-being.

    • This training is also offered in Spanish!
  • Diabetes Self- Management Program – The six-week, evidence-based workshop designed to empower participants through a mutually supportive and interactive education process. Participants learn to take charge and control their diabetes, understand and deal with emotions, manage medications, work with doctors and make weekly action plans for exercise and healthy eating.

    • This training is also offered in Spanish!
  • Matter of Balance- Participants meet for two hours, once or twice a week for a total of eight sessions. They learn to view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and exercise to increase strength and balance.
  • Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program-This program offers low impact exercises and gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility, range of motion and to help maintain muscle strength. Participants meet for one hour twice a week over six weeks.

    • This training is completely online with an online exam at the end.
    • You will need a CPR/AED certification to facilitate this program.
    • Partners in Care will pay for the training and certification if the leader commits to doing a certain number of workshops.

Ideal Abilities and Requirements:

  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exhibits enthusiasm
  • Dependable and consistent
  • Able to read and follow scriptPartners in Care Fdn.
  • Comfortable in front of small group
  • Drives own vehicle

Imagine LA works with volunteers and vulnerable families to break the cycle of homelessness, poverty, and neglect; and help every member thrive!

Their Family Mentorship Program matches a team of volunteer mentors from committed organizations to work directly with a family for 1-2 years. Imagine LA matches every family member with a one-to-one mentor; plus every family gets a Budget Mentor; and other volunteers help with tutoring, career development, childcare, healthcare, meal-planning and more. Imagine LA works.

Today, kids are excelling in school, parents are on career tracks, saving, maintaining budgets, and everyone remains in stable housing.

The Family Mentorship Program is a transformative experience for Families and Mentors alike. For families escaping the cycle of poverty, a mentor like you can make the difference between surviving and thriving.

Volunteers: NewFilmmakers LA @ Los Angeles, CA

NewFilmmakers Los Angeles is looking for volunteers for their monthly screenings! NFMLA is a non-profit dedicated to supporting emerging indie talent by screening a diverse body of shorts and features each month. 

Volunteers are needed for a Friday and Saturday once a month to help with set-up, reception, red carpet, ticketing, and breakdown. The evening is broken into 2 shifts, so when volunteers are not working, they can hang out and enjoy the event! To find out how to help, please contact Marissa@nfmla.org.

Second City Comedy Camp
Jul 22 @ 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Work out your creative energy learning improv, sketch and musical improv, all while having loads of fun and laughs! Weeklong day camps are available thru June, July, and Aug. Ages 8-18yrs • Mon-Fri • 9am-3:30pm • $350 per camp. No previous experience is needed. Camp ends with a free show where the students show off what they’ve learned!

STAR Volunteers: Read with Kids @ John C. Fremont Library

A Celebration of Music @ Nueva Vision Community School

Don't miss Nueva Vision Community School's Fundraiser Event on July 22 at 7 pm!  This special affair will help the school cover operational costs for important music programs for kids and teens from low-income families in the San Fernando Valley.  The program not only offers free music (piano and guitar) lessons to these students, but it also covers the costs of lesson books, materials, instruments and administrative expenses.  

The event will feature operatic soprano and Nueva Vision Community School voice teacher Julie Anne Bermel.

In addition to the special event, the good folks at Nueva Vision Community School are also in search of a volunteer to aid the organization in marketing to make more of an impact on friends and potential donors.  Volunteers with expertise in the areas of website and social media marketing are especially needed.

Mentors Needed: Fulfillment Fund @ Varied locations, including South LA, Koreatown, near USC, etc.

The Fulfillment Fund is a college access organization with a 39-year history of helping disadvantaged students graduate from high school and access college.  One of its key services is mentoring.  Recognized as one of the best in the state, the Fulfillment Fund’s Mentor Program provides guidance from adult role models to students whose life circumstances challenge their opportunities for success. Each year the Fulfillment Fund Mentor Program shapes the lives of hundreds of young people. While there are many opportunities to volunteer with the organization, mentoring provides a direct avenue to create a meaningful impact by making a nominal investment of time. The Mentor Program provides the necessary structure for success in a mentor/mentee relationship; staff support, extensive training and amazing volunteers all play a role in the program’s success.  The Fulfillment Fund is looking for mentors with the following:

  • Minimum of 24 years of age
  • Able to commit to meeting with their studFulfillment Fund, B-W Square Logoent once per month on their own schedule
  • Willing to commit to a mentoring relationship for a minimum of two years
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Interested in helping a student achieve higher education

Olive Crest’s 4th Annual Christmas in July Event @ Olive Crest

Olive Crest’s 4th Annual Christmas in July Event is sponsored by the Filipino-American Law Enforcement Officers Association, which brings police and military vehicles, food, a DJ, activity booths and a jumper for the kids in this fun-filled day. It’s a free event, open to the community, and is a lot of fun!

White Light White Night @ Continental Plaza / Top floor or Parking

Please come out and celebrate with Walk With Sally at White Light White Night as participants embrace the healing power of the all-white gala.
