Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Are you an animal lover? If so, don’t miss the chance to volunteer with Ahead With Horses every Saturday (unless otherwise noted) at their Shadow Hills facility.
Please note AWH is CLOSED the following Saturdays: 2/13/16; 3/26/16; 5/28/16; 7/2/16; 9/3/16; 11/26/16; 12/24/16 and 12/31/16.
Volunteers will assist in providing our developmental therapy to children with disabilities.
Duties include: Leading horses, spotting (walking along side the horse), grooming, cleaning tack, weeding, raking, etc.
Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and if under 18, an adult must come to sign a liability release form at their first session.
Dress code: must wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and a shirt with sleeves (t-shirt is fine; no tank tops). If planning on staying the entire day (which is not mandatory), please bring water and a sack lunch.

Help care for the White Point Native Plant Demonstration Garden by removing invasive weeds, watering native plants, grooming trails and more with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy! Your efforts will help restore important wildlife habitat and create a beautiful place where the community can enjoy being in nature! Volunteers will be working outdoors, so please wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection and be sure to bring drinking water. Thank you for volunteering!

Don’t miss the LA Arboretum’s Crescent Farm Series!
Learn about water conservation and sustainable gardening, with hands-on experience! The Crescent Farm, located in the heart of the Arboretum just west of Baldwin Lake, is a reclaimed landscape where they explore new and ancient horticulture techniques for water conservation and food production. This is an educational training series. Please bring gloves, drinking water; wear close-toed shoes and a hat.

The Crescent Farm at the Arboretum horticulture team put their minds and imaginations together to create an amazing drought-tolerant plant palette. We are happy to present our arid climate orchard and short-season fruit and vegetable production surrounded by a California native-based landscape of meadow and low water lawn alternatives. Not only beautiful, these plants provide habitat for an amazing insect and wildlife population. The flora and fauna here were sourced from local nurseries and are readily available for your own yards.

Join Family Rescue Center for their weekly Saturday distribution of organic food donated from the Calabasas Farmer's Market. They need happy, helpful volunteers to sort the fruits and vegetables and to hand them out at their center. Four to six volunteers per Saturday is preferable; teens and older, please.

Proudly reaching an important milestone, MARIACHI USA celebrates its 27 years on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Now the premier mariachi music festival in the world and the only annual Latino themed event at the Hollywood Bowl for 27 consecutive years, the festival will showcase top Mariachi bands from the USA and Mexico, traditional folkloric dances and the legendary Fireworks display that together have made the event a cultural icon in the USA.
LAWineFest is in need of volunteers to work 4-hour shifts starting at 9:30 am with the last shift starting at 4:00 pm. This event benefits The Sunshine Kids, dedicated to providing activities, trips, and events for young cancer patients. Participants should be 21 or over, and early shift volunteers are welcome to stay and enjoy the festival from 2-6 pm, free of charge.
Tickets are now on sale for The Beach Boys concert at the 24th Family Music Festival on Sunday, June 26, 2015 at the Arboretum. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Arboretum Gift Shop. The Festival is presented Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation and the Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation.
Gates open at 2 pm. The concert begins at 4:00 pm on the Bauer Lawn. The Arboretum is located at 301 North Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91007. Children under 12 are admitted free to this concert and must be accompanied by an adult. Food, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase onsite or you may bring a picnic. There will be food trucks. Beer and wine will be available for purchase at the Arboretum Library’s Beer for Books/Wines for Spines booth.
Lawn Seating: All seating for the concert is lawn seating. Please bring your own chair or blankets. The concert last about 2 1/2 hours. Please dress comfortably and bring a jacket or sweater for the evening as it will get cool. Please be aware that for safety reasons open flames (candles, lanterns, etc.) are not permitted. Smoking is not permitted. Guests can use umbrellas before the concert, but umbrellas must be put away prior to the start of the concert. Assistance dogs are allowed but no pets please. The performance will occur rain or shine. Ticket purchases are non-refundable.
Parking: The fee is $10 for the Arboretum lot; $6 for parking at the Santa Anita Park (racetrack) where free shuttles will operate to and from the Arboretum. A limited number of accessible parking spaces are available. Parking is only sold onsite, on the day of the concert. Please arrive early to ensure availability.
Drop Off: A zone for dropping off passengers and food items is located at the main entrance to the Arboretum. Please enter at Arboretum Way.
NOTE: Children 12 and under free and must be accompanied by an adult.

For-Summer Cookout & Movie Night! We’ll be packing bags full of beach stuff for many needy youth organizations followed by a cookout and a special screening of Heavyweights. Our pals from Movies at Night are back again for another big screen experience, donating the big screen and popcorn. Our friends from Salt & Straw are also back with an ice cream truck for everyone to enjoy!
