Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death for men and women combined, but it is preventable, treatable and beatable if caught at an early stage. During CRC Awareness Month in March, the American Cancer Society is training volunteers to go out and speak in the community about the importance of screening, risk factors, and ACS's 80% By 2018 initiative to increase screening rates to reduce incidence and mortality rates. No medical background is necessary and volunteers will receive a PowerPoint presentation and samples of materials that are available for speakers to distribute. Examples of speaking opportunities are: community health fairs, service club meetings, church groups, senior centers, etc. If you are interested in making a difference in your community, please join ACS and learn more about how you can get involved! Inner City Cultural Center II, Inc., Kaos Network and Tuesday Conner are proud to present “Poets Jazz House Live in Leimert Park”. Host by Yawo Watts on the last Saturday of every month at the Vision Theater, 3341 West 43rd PLACE, Los Angeles, CA 90008.
Poets Jazz House is a Spoken Word & Music Lounge where spilling your heart is an art and searching your soul is mandatory to get in the door and the cover charge is always free. This little beatnik Open Mic venue is taking it to the streets with Soapbox Poetry. Join us in the courtyard where there is snapping instead of clapping, the atmosphere is lax but it sizzles. The dialogues are designed to help LA community members and LAPD officers build trust and understand each other better. The curriculum includes facilitated conversation, conflict resolution training, and interactive activities. Our upcoming Community/Police Dialogue is geared towards community members and officers from the West Bureau, which includes Hollywood, Koreatown, the Mid-Wilshire area, and much of West LA.
Participants must commit to being present both days (9/25: 12-5pm
