Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

For years, Big Sunday Weekend—an incredible three-day festival of helping each May—has been our signature (and largest) event. In 2015, thousands of volunteers turned out—some as individuals, others with their families, still others as part of a class, church, synagogue, mosque, business or club—to lend a hand at hundreds of different projects from San Diego to San Francisco, making Big Sunday Weekend one of the largest regional community service events in America. In 2016, Big Sunday Weekend is expanding to A Month of Big Sundays. After 17 years, we’ve simply grown too big to contain everything in one weekend.
In May 2016, Big Sunday is hosting and/or sponsoring special events every single day of the month. Now we can take on even bigger projects, reach more people, make new alliances, and more easily fit in with everyone’s (and every organization’s) busy schedules. We’ll still have all kinds of events for every kind of passion and every type of talent. If you are at a school, faith group or business making your 2016 calendar now, please set aside any day during May 2016 and know that we’ll find a project that’s both impactful and fun for you to do. If you want to host a project, please select any day during May. Of course, we’ll still be bringing people together from all walks of life in the name of making the world a better place. Amnesty International invites you to this year's Western Regional Conference! Join them October 28-30, 2016, as they stand shoulder to shoulder in the great city of Los Angeles to make a lasting human rights impact. The Western Regional Conference brings together hundreds of Amnesty members and other human rights activists from around the country. With the Regional Conference Planning Committee and Regional Office as co-hosts, together they will continue the tradition of engaging in networking opportunities, inspiring plenaries, outstanding keynotes, and hands-on skill-building workshops, as well as shaping the policies of the organization.
Through interactive programs and workshops, exceptional speakers and engaging exhibits, the Regional Conference will facilitate discussions about human rights issues in the United States and around the world and motivate us to take action. As an activist, you will be challenged to initiate change within your own community. This will only happen with you – you need to be there!

Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age. Community service credit/certificates will be given to all students.

Join the National Council of Jewish Women LA on Sunday, December 4 RAIN OR SHINE to help give away over 75,000 pieces of clothing and children's books to more than 3,000 in-need and at-risk individuals in our community. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and volunteer groups are welcome! Community service certificates will be given to all students.
Please note there are TWO volunteer shifts: 6:45 am-10:00 am and 9:45 am-1:15 pm. You are welcome to come for one or stay for both!
Join TREE MUSKETEERS Tree Team on Wednesdays to care for trees in El Segundo's urban forests!
Activities include watering, mulching, weeding, pruning and litter abatement. Tree Musketeers provides the tools and know-how, you just need to come ready to "dig in" to your community.

Olive Crest presents the “Shimmer and Share: Show That You Care” Dress Drive March 13 – April 7. The public is encouraged to donate a bridesmaid dress, cocktail dress or evening gown to Olive Crest to give every girl in their community a chance to go to her prom feeling like a princess. All dress donations will benefit at-risk teens and youth. Please drop off items Monday through Friday from 9 am – 5 pm at 17800 Woodruff Avenue, Bellflower, CA 90706. Join us the weekend of December 1 and 2, 2018 – RAIN OR SHINE!
The Giveaway is a single-day event that provides free, gently used clothing to more than 2,000 women, men, and children at the start of the holiday season.
We need 120 volunteers to help sort clothing, greet our guests, keep our giveaway tables freshly and fully stocked, and assist with event cleanup. Breakfast and lunch are provided for volunteers.
The Clothing Giveaway takes place at our headquarters in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles:

Parking restrictions in the area are eased for the event.
Volunteers must be at least 17 years-old. Community service credit/certificates will be given to all students.
