Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death for men and women combined, but it is preventable, treatable and beatable if caught at an early stage. During CRC Awareness Month in March, the American Cancer Society is training volunteers to go out and speak in the community about the importance of screening, risk factors, and ACS's 80% By 2018 initiative to increase screening rates to reduce incidence and mortality rates. No medical background is necessary and volunteers will receive a PowerPoint presentation and samples of materials that are available for speakers to distribute. Examples of speaking opportunities are: community health fairs, service club meetings, church groups, senior centers, etc. If you are interested in making a difference in your community, please join ACS and learn more about how you can get involved! The OPCC and Lamp Community Summer Fundraiser is just around the corner on Saturday, June 11th and they need help from volunteers to staff the event to ensure it is a success! This fundraiser is hosted by the Vintage Hollywood Foundation and it raises critical funds that help these organizations keep their doors open to provide services to the community’s most vulnerable neighbors.
There are 3 shifts that need to be filled and they’ll need a LOT of hands on deck!
- Friday June 10th, 2016 – 2:00pm – 7:00pm – 15 volunteers needed
- Saturday June 11th, 2016 – 9:00am – 2:00pm – 15 volunteers needed
- Saturday June 11th, 2016 – 4:00pm – 10:30pm – 30 volunteers needed (must be 21 years or older**)
What roles can you fill?
- Event set-up – strong and able bodied volunteers needed to assist in setting up the event space up
- Check in & Registration – volunteers will ensure all guests, media and celebrities are checked in
- Silent & live auction monitors – volunteers who love playing on cell phones are needed, as they will be using an electronic bidding system that works right through guests’ cell phones
- Winery and restaurant liaisons – volunteers will ensure all the participating wineries and restaurants are supported and stocked with what they need
- The green team – volunteers will be circulating on-site at all times to make sure the grounds are looking pristine throughout the entire event itself
- Event break-down – strong and able bodied volunteers are needed to help break down after the event wraps up at 9:00 pm; the more help on site, the faster everyone finishes!

Su Casa invites you to attend a Signature Event for Joan’s Wish List on Saturday October 19 at Big Door Studios in El Segundo.
Joan’s Wish List is a non-profit, which provides support to a different domestic violence shelter each year. This year, Su Casa was selected to benefit from their event. Su Casa has requested a number of items for our wish list, including a new computer classroom for our children’s area and fitness equipment so that broken bodies can begin to mend and strengthen.
Joan’s Wish List’s 6th Annual Signature Event on October 19, 2019 at 6pm. They will be returning to Big Door Studios in El Segundo where last year’s amazing event was held. Last year’s event was off the charts and this year will be even better! Enjoy great food from local restaurants, fabulous wines and cocktails, incredible silent auction items, a photo booth, live music, entertainers and much more, all while supporting survivors of domestic violence.
The incredible auction items will include an Angels On-Field Experience, a stay at the Mammoth Juniper Lodge, a Beach-Front Stay in Peru, the Porsche Driving Experience, and many more exciting items and experiences.
