Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Our friends at Family Rescue Center are in need of a few hardworking volunteers to assist with their March 19 Easter Family Fun Day. Once a month, volunteers and community partners come together at the Garden School Foundation’s 24th Street School Garden to have some fun in the sun, enjoy delicious, garden-fresh snacks, and get vital work done that keeps their living classrooms beautiful for the kids they serve. They also have a cooking or gardening workshop during each workday, where volunteers can learn & get inspired about food, from seed to table.

Thank you for your interest in the 2016 Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Run and Hike. No experience required-share your skills and learn new ones! As a volunteer you will meet new friends, have fun and know you have contributed to your community!
All volunteers must complete the volunteer form and waiver. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have a parental/guardian consent (minimum age requirement is 16 years old). Volunteer shifts will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. They include: Registration Crew, Water Stations Crew, Finish Line Crew, Expo Crew, Pancake Breakfast Crew, Clean Up Crew, etc. All volunteers may be asked to stay in their assigned areas to assist with cleanup which may include taking down canopies, tables, chairs, etc.
Volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt, race information badge, and enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast. For more info, please contact Patty Betancourt.

Join TREE MUSKETEERS Community Forester and volunteers as they care for trees in El Segundo's urban forests!
Activities include watering, mulching, weeding, pruning and litter abatement. Tree Musketeers provides the tools and know-how, you just need to come ready to "dig in" to your community.

The Emerson Avenue Community Garden Club is hosting the first annual Westchester Arts & Music (aka WAM!) Block Party, a free, day-long celebration filled with live music/dance, art, food and community. They’re closing down the street and opening up the garden for arts and crafts activities for all ages and a diverse mix of performances, vendors and food trucks, including Kogi BBQ! Website Weekend is a weekend-long hackathon where teams of digital professionals, including designers, developers, copy writers, and more, are paired up with local nonprofit organizations. Over the course of the weekend, the teams will work closely with representatives from the nonprofit organizations to design, develop and launch new websites for the nonprofits. We need help from experienced web developers and designers, user experience professionals, copy writers, digital marketers, and more. We also need help with general volunteer tasks: handling checkins, cleanup, making sure lunch and breakfast are served, and that everyone has everything they need to be comfortable and productive. On Saturday, May 6th, The Second City Hollywood is giving back to the community with a day of FREE workshops & shows! Reservations are recommended but walk-ups on the day of are always welcome.
FREE workshops offered in Improv, Musical Improv, Writing for TV/Film, Writing Comedy, Stand-Up, Long Form Improv, Kid Improv (6-7yr), and Kid & Teen Improv (8-18yr).
FREE shows from noon-10pm with the noon at 3 pm shows being family friendly.

- Set up the community room/ tables with ornaments
- Prepare/ set up tea/ drinks/ food
- Greet residents
- Help serve food plates and drinks to residents
- Do carnation corsages for attendees

Join us the weekend of December 1 and 2, 2018 – RAIN OR SHINE!
The Giveaway is a single-day event that provides free, gently used clothing to more than 2,000 women, men, and children at the start of the holiday season.
We need 120 volunteers to help sort clothing, greet our guests, keep our giveaway tables freshly and fully stocked, and assist with event cleanup. Breakfast and lunch are provided for volunteers.
The Clothing Giveaway takes place at our headquarters in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles:
543 N Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90036.
Parking restrictions in the area are eased for the event.
Volunteers must be at least 17 years-old. Community service credit/certificates will be given to all students.
