Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

We’ll be honoring Paulette Light & Melanie Staggs, Tony Molina, and Parsons Corp. Melanie and Paulette have run Big Sunday’s monthly food drive, The End of the Month Club, since its inception, and they have also overseen the massive food collection and distribution we’ve done for the past few years at Thanksgiving. They have done an amazing job nurturing and building this extremely popular and successful program, as well as this great and growing Thanksgiving tradition. Tony Molina is a wonderful gentleman who works at NBC-Universal in the transportation department, and has helped Big Sunday move about a zillion pounds of stuff over many years, as well as run all kinds of projects for us, rehabbing schools and shelters. We’ve happily worked with Parsons Corp. on all kinds of terrific and impactful service projects, from San Diego to San Francisco.
We’re excited by the enthusiastic reception for this event and for our very deserving honorees.

Big Sunday’s harbor cruises are awesome! We host a big group of underserved and deserving folks on a special cruise through San Pedro Harbor. Many of these nice people have never been on a boat before! We need volunteers to host, be friendly, hand our donuts (of course!), enjoy one another and enjoy the ride. Why wait for Veteran’s Day? At Big Sunday, we love working for and with veterans. We’ll be hosting vets from all over town. Together, we’ll enjoy great games and entertainment. We’ll also be writing letters to soldiers on active duty. Then everyone’s invited for a big and memorable Big Sunday community dinner. It’s a great way to show the vets how much we care.
We are collecting food items for our friends at the Los Angeles VA Ambulatory Care Center. We are collecting canned proteins and instant dinners (i.e. anything where you can just add water).
Lastly, we are also collecting comic books for Operation Gratitude to include in care packages for deployed soldiers.

Join us for our first-ever Mother’s Day Party! It will be a great time for anyone who is a mom, has a mom, or knows a mom. We’ll be making cards and gifts for moms who are shut-ins and doing special collections for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, and m2m (Mother 2 Mother) which helps women with AIDS in Africa. We’ll also be collecting new and gently used baby clothes for an orphanage in Central America. All ages are welcome. For more info, please email beenish@bigsunday.org.
