Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

The Khalsa Care Foundation invites you to an afternoon fill of free fun for the entire family, including giveaways, free games, food and an awesome raffle. The KCF giveaway, sponsored by the Sikh Community of Los Angeles, will include food bags, winter warmth items (i.e. blankets, jackets, socks, hygiene kits, gloves and beanies) and toys (basketballs, soccer balls and kid’s toys). Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death for men and women combined, but it is preventable, treatable and beatable if caught at an early stage. During CRC Awareness Month in March, the American Cancer Society is training volunteers to go out and speak in the community about the importance of screening, risk factors, and ACS's 80% By 2018 initiative to increase screening rates to reduce incidence and mortality rates. No medical background is necessary and volunteers will receive a PowerPoint presentation and samples of materials that are available for speakers to distribute. Examples of speaking opportunities are: community health fairs, service club meetings, church groups, senior centers, etc. If you are interested in making a difference in your community, please join ACS and learn more about how you can get involved! Poets Jazz House is a Spoken Word & Music Lounge where spilling your heart is an art and searching your soul is mandatory to get in the door and the cover charge is always free. Just in time for holiday shopping, the Autry Store presents a show and sale of handmade pottery, rugs, and clothing. Master carver Jacobo Angeles Ojeda will showcase his intricate carving and painting techniques. His work will be available for purchase along with a diverse selection of Oaxacan pieces from other artists, including whimsical carvings and embroidered dresses, scarves, and shirts. Robert Angeles will present his handmade clothing alongside Zapotec rugs and Jorge Quintana's Mata Ortiz pottery.
