Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

The North American Reptile Breeders Conference & Trade Show welcomes families, students, reptile professionals and enthusiasts to its Pasadena show this November. Attendees will get an up-close view of reptiles of all shapes and sizes including snakes, frogs, turtles, geckos, iguanas, and tortoises – all are available for sale. In addition to viewing exotic and rare breeds, admission to the show includes educational sessions from some of the industry’s most respected experts as they discuss specific species and habitats during various presentations throughout the weekend. Whether you are a reptile aficionado or entering the world of “herping” for the first time, this high quality, captive-bred-only reptile show is sure to entertain.

Everyone is welcome. Admission is free and includes hors d’oeuvres. All proceeds from the live auction will benefit USARK (the United States Association of Reptile Keepers), a non-profit organization advocating for the practice of Herpetoculture.

Help the National Council for Jewish Women LA prepare for their Annual Clothing Giveaway by sorting and organizing over 75,000 pieces of clothing and children's books to give away to 3,000 in-need and at-risk individuals in our community. Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age. Community service credit/certificates will be given to all students.

Join the National Council of Jewish Women LA on Sunday, December 4 RAIN OR SHINE to help give away over 75,000 pieces of clothing and children's books to more than 3,000 in-need and at-risk individuals in our community. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and volunteer groups are welcome! Community service certificates will be given to all students.
Please note there are TWO volunteer shifts: 6:45 am-10:00 am and 9:45 am-1:15 pm. You are welcome to come for one or stay for both!
Olive Crest presents the “Shimmer and Share: Show That You Care” Dress Drive March 13 – April 7. The public is encouraged to donate a bridesmaid dress, cocktail dress or evening gown to Olive Crest to give every girl in their community a chance to go to her prom feeling like a princess. All dress donations will benefit at-risk teens and youth. Please drop off items Monday through Friday from 9 am – 5 pm at 17800 Woodruff Avenue, Bellflower, CA 90706. The Giveaway is a single-day event that provides free, gently used clothing to more than 2,000 women, men, and children at the start of the holiday season.
We need 120 volunteers to help sort clothing, greet our guests, keep our giveaway tables freshly and fully stocked, and assist with event cleanup. Breakfast and lunch are provided for volunteers.
The Clothing Giveaway takes place at our headquarters in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles:

Parking restrictions in the area are eased for the event.
Volunteers must be at least 17 years-old. Community service credit/certificates will be given to all students.
Participants must commit to being present both days (9/25: 12-5pm
& 9/26: 10-5pm). Participants will be awarded a $25 gift card each day.
Participants must be 18 or over.

C3 is a series of community/police dialogues funded by a Soros Foundation Open Society Grant awarded to the Los Angeles Women Police Officers Association (LAWPOA) in cooperation with Pepperdine University and the LAPD. The dialogues are designed to help LA community members and LAPD officers build trust and understand each other better. The curriculum includes facilitated conversation, conflict resolution training, and interactive activities. Our upcoming Community/Police Dialogue is geared towards community members and officers from the West Bureau, which includes Hollywood, Koreatown, the Mid-Wilshire area, and much of West LA.
Participants must commit to being present both days (9/25: 12-5pm
& 9/26: 10-5pm). Participants will be awarded a $25 gift card each day.
