We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge is proud to present the 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Day Run and Food Drive! The Run has been a staple event in the community for two decades, and people of all ages are invited to come out and get a little exercise in before their big Thanksgiving meals. The Thanksgiving Day Run is a 5k that begins at Memorial Park in La Cañada Flintridge. Runners travel west along Foothill Boulevard, turn around at Castle Lane, and run back along Foothill to end the race back at Memorial park. There is also a Kid’s Mile full of smiles and energy for the little ones in which parents can run along with their children at no additional cost.
Participants are free to take the 5k at whatever pace they please, because the primary goal is to make sure everyone has a good time with their friends and family. However, for the serious runners, the race is professionally timed and awards will be given to the top runners in each category, so be sure to keep your competitive nature in check in the spirit of Thanksgiving. Every child that runs in the Kid’s Mile can expect a small award for their tremendous accomplishment.
With over a thousand attendees in 2014, we expect this year’s event to be the biggest and best so far. All of the proceeds from this event go to help support the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge’s year-round programs for kids, teens, adults, and seniors. Non-perishable food collected all throughout November and on the day of the run will be distributed by the Crescenta Valley Sherriff’s Station to those in need.
Volunteers are an essential part of running this event. The Community Center has a very small staff, and running such a large event requires many helping hands. Whether you'd like to volunteer in the weeks leading up to the Run or the day of the event itself or both, they'd be honored to have you. Take advantage of this opportunity and join a family of dedicated staff and volunteers. CCLCF keeps in the spirit of Thanksgiving and appreciates every single minute any volunteer spends helping. For years, Big Sunday Weekend—an incredible three-day festival of helping each May—has been our signature (and largest) event. In 2015, thousands of volunteers turned out—some as individuals, others with their families, still others as part of a class, church, synagogue, mosque, business or club—to lend a hand at hundreds of different projects from San Diego to San Francisco, making Big Sunday Weekend one of the largest regional community service events in America. In 2016, Big Sunday Weekend is expanding to A Month of Big Sundays. After 17 years, we’ve simply grown too big to contain everything in one weekend.
In May 2016, Big Sunday is hosting and/or sponsoring special events every single day of the month. Now we can take on even bigger projects, reach more people, make new alliances, and more easily fit in with everyone’s (and every organization’s) busy schedules. We’ll still have all kinds of events for every kind of passion and every type of talent. If you are at a school, faith group or business making your 2016 calendar now, please set aside any day during May 2016 and know that we’ll find a project that’s both impactful and fun for you to do. If you want to host a project, please select any day during May. Of course, we’ll still be bringing people together from all walks of life in the name of making the world a better place. Join Team Big Sunday at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life for Griffith Park Communities and Hollywood. The Relay For Life events bring hope, encouragement and services to those struggling with cancer, remembrance for those who have lost a loved one, and provides fundraising for the cure. Registration is free. Donations are optional. Come walk with the team!

Back on My Feet LA has partnered with the run club United LA to host a trail run through Montecito Heights – a fun, free community event. Volunteers welcome to help keep on the trail. To learn more, please contact Sandy Peacock.
On Thanksgiving morning, don't miss the Drumstick Dash 5K/10K as participants run with the stars on the backlot of CBS Studios for a great cause. All proceeds from the event go to provide meals, shelter, and clothing for homeless individuals throughout the greater Los Angeles area!
