Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

For years, Big Sunday Weekend—an incredible three-day festival of helping each May—has been our signature (and largest) event. In 2015, thousands of volunteers turned out—some as individuals, others with their families, still others as part of a class, church, synagogue, mosque, business or club—to lend a hand at hundreds of different projects from San Diego to San Francisco, making Big Sunday Weekend one of the largest regional community service events in America. In 2016, Big Sunday Weekend is expanding to A Month of Big Sundays. After 17 years, we’ve simply grown too big to contain everything in one weekend.
In May 2016, Big Sunday is hosting and/or sponsoring special events every single day of the month. Now we can take on even bigger projects, reach more people, make new alliances, and more easily fit in with everyone’s (and every organization’s) busy schedules. We’ll still have all kinds of events for every kind of passion and every type of talent. If you are at a school, faith group or business making your 2016 calendar now, please set aside any day during May 2016 and know that we’ll find a project that’s both impactful and fun for you to do. If you want to host a project, please select any day during May. Of course, we’ll still be bringing people together from all walks of life in the name of making the world a better place. The Beverly Hills artSHOW returns to historic Beverly Gardens on Saturday and Sunday, October 15th and 16th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art enthusiasts visit from all over Southern California and beyond to see selected artists from across the country.
Artists whose work illustrates the timely topic of Construction!, particularly in the Los Angeles environs, are featured among the 250 artists. The show expands along four garden blocks in the center of Beverly Hills, from Rodeo to Rexford Drive, along Santa Monica Boulevard. Media categories run the gamut from painting and printmaking to sculpture, ceramics, and even the occasional performance artwork.
Guests can also enjoy a wine and dine garden, a beer and brat garden, popular food trucks, ambien
t music, and family art projects. Easy parking is located directly across from the show grounds. Don’t miss it!

Catch the rain when it hits with a free rain barrel from West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin)! California has been in a statewide drought for five years, and likely a sixth. In response, West Basin is increasing public conservation and education by hosting no-cost rain barrel distribution events throughout the South Bay this fall season to qualified residents in the West Basin service area.

Join Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and work alongside staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails! Tasks include trail maintenance, building fences, installing signage and more! No experience needed. This event is meeting at Portuguese Bend Reserve.
Please come prepared to work outdoors with sturdy closed-toed shoes, long pants, sun protection, a snack and water. Thank you for volunteering!

Join Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy during their Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend Reserve. Open to all, no experience needed! They'll will be working on one of their many restoration sites to remove invasive weeds and plant/maintain native shrubs. Your work will help improve the land for people and wildlife alike!
This event will meet at the entrance of Portuguese Bend Reserve at the intersection of Crenshaw and Burrell Lane next to Del Cerro Park.

Please join Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy for their Outdoor Volunteer Day from 9am to 12pm at Alta Vicente Reserve! They will be working to remove invasive weeds which degrade important wildlife habitat and replacing them with native plants!
Please meet them at the Alta Vicente trailhead next to St Paul's Lutheran Church at 31290 Palos Verdes Dr W, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Please do not park in the church parking lot. Park on the street. Extra parking can be found in Golden Cove Shopping Center.
The group will be working outdoors, so please wear closed-toed shoes, sun protection and be sure to bring drinking water and a snack. A reusable water bottle is recommended. Thank you for volunteering to conserve the Palos Verdes Peninsula!
