Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Each month Big Sunday collects at least 600 items in our popular monthly food drive to help hungry and grateful people. Sorting is October 16 from 10 -11 am. In October, Big Sunday will be doing a joint project with the Center for Early Education. Volunteers are asked to bring military care package items for soldiers and military families, including magazines, gum, playing cards, prepaid calling cards, books, movies, CDs and more! Can’t shop? Why wait for Veteran’s Day? At Big Sunday, we love working for and with veterans. We’ll be hosting vets from all over town. Together, we’ll enjoy great games and entertainment. We’ll also be writing letters to soldiers on active duty. Then everyone’s invited for a big and memorable Big Sunday community dinner. It’s a great way to show the vets how much we care.
We are collecting food items for our friends at the Los Angeles VA Ambulatory Care Center. We are collecting canned proteins and instant dinners (i.e. anything where you can just add water).
Lastly, we are also collecting comic books for Operation Gratitude to include in care packages for deployed soldiers.

For years, Big Sunday Weekend—an incredible three-day festival of helping each May—has been our signature (and largest) event. In 2015, thousands of volunteers turned out—some as individuals, others with their families, still others as part of a class, church, synagogue, mosque, business or club—to lend a hand at hundreds of different projects from San Diego to San Francisco, making Big Sunday Weekend one of the largest regional community service events in America. In 2016, Big Sunday Weekend is expanding to A Month of Big Sundays. After 17 years, we’ve simply grown too big to contain everything in one weekend.
In May 2016, Big Sunday is hosting and/or sponsoring special events every single day of the month. Now we can take on even bigger projects, reach more people, make new alliances, and more easily fit in with everyone’s (and every organization’s) busy schedules. We’ll still have all kinds of events for every kind of passion and every type of talent. If you are at a school, faith group or business making your 2016 calendar now, please set aside any day during May 2016 and know that we’ll find a project that’s both impactful and fun for you to do. If you want to host a project, please select any day during May. Of course, we’ll still be bringing people together from all walks of life in the name of making the world a better place. Each year we collect and pack big bags full of Thanksgiving dinner for thousands of people, including veterans, homeless families, women in domestic violence shelters, group homes, low-income families, at-risk children, food pantries, schools and more. This year will be even bigger! We need volunteers to donate food and pack up all the Thanksgiving goodies. To RSVP, please click HERE. 
Brighten up the holidays for our vets! Join us as we decorate three enormous buildings at the VA in Westwood. This is a wonderful annual tradition and the kick-off for nearly 20 different Big Sunday holiday decorating events. All ages welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups are also welcome. Contact beenish@bigsunday.org to volunteer or for the full decorating schedule and address details. This is just the first of more than a dozen holiday decorating events!
We love working for (and with!) veterans. We’ll be hosting vets from all over town. Together, we’ll enjoy great games (including our 1st-Ever Trivia Night) and entertainment from our amazing friends, The New Directions Veterans’ Choir, who are back for a return performance! We’ll also be writing letters to military personnel on active duty. Then, of course, everyone’s invited for a big, memorable Big Sunday community dinner. We are collecting comic books for our pals at Operation Gratitude to include in their care packages that are sent to service members deployed overseas. We’re also collecting unexpired, non-perishable food for the Downtown VA as part of April’s End of the Month Club.
