Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Do you love the show Wipe Out? Come volunteer for the Insane Inflatable 5K with the American Cancer Society! You will receive a volunteer crew t-shirt, lunch and snacks and access to the Insane Midway for games and activities. The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is the charity of choice for this event and will receive a donation for providing volunteers! Find out if you have what it takes to tackle the San Gabriel foothills at the 4th annual Foothill 5K Challenge, benefiting Back on My Feet Greater Los Angeles! Participants are welcome to run or hike the course and enjoy the spectacular 360 degree views of the San Gabriel Mountains.

Back on My Feet is committed to building a stronger and healthier community. The Foothill 5K Challenge supports Back on My Feet's services to increase self-sufficiency among individuals experiencing homelessness and periods of transition. Learn about their mission and impact here. In 2017, Back on My Feet hopes to raise $35,000 for Back on My Feet Greater Los Angeles. Visit the website to see their progress leading up to the race!

Celebrate your accomplishment at the official Golden Road Brewing Co. post-race party! Select beers will be only $5, and 15% of proceeds from all sales will benefit Back on My Feet! The post-race party will begin at 10 am. and end at 2 pm. Golden Road is located at 5410 W. San Fernando Road in Los Angeles, just 5 quick miles from the Glendale Sports Complex.
PACKET PICK UP
Packet pick up will be available at Run With Us on Saturday, April 9, from 12 pm. until 7 pm. Run With Us is located at 235 N. Lake Ave. in Pasadena. Race-day packet pick up will also be available at the Glendale Sports Complex from 7 am. to 8 am. Note: Race shirts guaranteed for first 500 registrants.
Students Run LA (SRLA) is bringing together alumni and runners from across Los Angeles for an easy, flat 5K course around the Griffith Park Golf Course. Walkers and runners of all levels are encouraged.
Following the 5K, enjoy a post-race picnic, DJ, and time with some of SRLA's longest serving volunteers.
All proceeds support Students Run LA.
SRLA creates a safe, supportive community at 180+ public schools across Greater Los Angeles, welcoming more than 3,000 students of all backgrounds and abilities to train alongside their volunteer mentors to complete the Los Angeles Marathon. Through this life-changing experience, students discover their best selves and learn how to make plans for the future.
Each year, students become active 10+ hours a week; 95+% of the students who attempt the Marathon, finish it; and 95+% of SRLA seniors graduate from high school with plans to attend college the following fall, with 2/3 being the first in their families to do so. Students also incorporate healthy living in their daily lives with 87% continuing to exercise after SRLA ends.

Race day is coming up and we still need more volunteers. We're on the lookout for people to help with some of the below. Not all races need all areas, but this is a general idea on where you may be assigned the morning of the race:
Positioned near and at the entry to designated parking areas to direct athletes, attendees and other volunteers to correct parking areas, registration area and event plaza.
Water Stations Along the Course
Fill cups of water at water stations along course. Maintain filled water cups for runners/walkers as needed. Clean up post race, throwing all empty water cups into trash receptacles.
Food & Beverage Tables
Cut bananas, oranges and bagels as well as set up tables. Additionally, hand out to runners and walkers before and after they run/walk.
Course Direction & cheer stations
Positioned at various key points along the course, volunteers will point or holds signs to keep runners/walkers on the proper course. Cheer the runners and walkers on as they participate in the race.
Assist with the set-up and breakdown of course by removal of cones, signs, course water tables and containers of water.
Event Day Registration
Welcome athletes, collect registration information, distribute race packets, race t-shirts and goodie bags on race day.
Assist with sorting of athletes as they finish the run/walk, handing out finisher medals and keeping order in the finish chutes.
Assist with sorting and distributing age group awards to top three finishers in each age group.
Breakdown and Clean-up
All volunteers are asked to assist with the breakdown and clean-up of the course, start & finish line area and event plaza area.
Depending on the race, Kiddie Fun Run Course Volunteers
Positioned along the Kiddie Fun Run course, volunteers will ensure all participants follow and stay on course.
As an A5 Events volunteer you will be fed and hydrated.
If you have any friends or family that also may be interested in volunteering, please have them sign up through this website or show up with you on the day of the event. You will be assigned a job at the event.
