Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Camp Hollywood HEART is a one week summer arts camp in Malibu, CA for teens across the nation impacted by HIV/AIDS. They offer workshops in filmmaking, fashion, writing, culinary arts, music, and more– and needless to say, with all the fun they have, there are a lot of supplies and equipment to clean up!
After 80 campers explore their creativity and find their artistic voices, they'll have to pack up all the supplies and bring it back down the mountain. It can be a big job for our staff and volunteers, most of which are exhausted from the long week and on early flights back home.
Won't you join them to pack up the camp and leave the site as beautiful as it was found? Some ability to lift light loads or a good eye for packing a U-Haul (all that Tetris 
playing does pay off!) is ideal but not required.
Website Weekend is a weekend-long hackathon where teams of digital professionals, including designers, developers, copy writers, and more, are paired up with local nonprofit organizations. Over the course of the weekend, the teams will work closely with representatives from the nonprofit organizations to design, develop and launch new websites for the nonprofits. We need help from experienced web developers and designers, user experience professionals, copy writers, digital marketers, and more. We also need help with general volunteer tasks: handling checkins, cleanup, making sure lunch and breakfast are served, and that everyone has everything they need to be comfortable and productive. Join TREE MUSKETEERS Tree Team on Wednesdays to care for trees in El Segundo's urban forests!
Activities include watering, mulching, weeding, pruning and litter abatement. Tree Musketeers provides the tools and know-how, you just need to come ready to "dig in" to your community.

This is also a great opportunity for you to volunteer with your child whether they are a general volunteer or Youth Planting Supervisor. Pick your schedule as you go, but folks who can help at Tree Musketeer's annual tree planting event, Arbor Day Celebration in March, are especially needed.

YALLWEST is a Young Adult Literary Festival held in Santa Monica. This year they are bringing in over 125 authors for a weekend of panels, signings, and fun. They also bring in over 800 students from Title 1 schools with their program Books, Buses, and Burgers. This allows students free transportation to the festival, lunch, and a free book of their choosing.
Volunteer hours are between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm and they run in 4-hour blocks.
Tasks:
- Panel Monitoring
- Ticket taking
- Author Signings
- School Escorts
Time Requirement: shifts are 4 hours long, there is a 1-hr training session held the week before the festival

The Renegade Summer Trail Run Series benefits WeROCK (We Run Orange County’s Kids), a non-profit organization that provides after-school intervention programs for the Middle and High School students of Orange County. By delivering education and proper training for the completion of a 26.2 mile marathon, We ROCK teaches our community’s teenagers the important life skills of goal setting, self-reliance, discipline and self-confidence.
