Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar

We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

If you have questions about our calendar, or would like to add a listing, please contact calendar@bigsunday.org or submit your event/opportunity via the button below.

Young Storytellers
Feb 19 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Young Storytellers is an arts education nonprofit with programs in public elementary schools all over Los Angeles and a few remote locations across the country. Using the tried and true techniques of mentoring, collaboration, and performance, we provide students with an opportunity to write stories and see them brought to life on stage. Our mission is to inspire young people to discover the power of their own voice. Our Script to Stage program is a nine-week program with volunteers offering one-on-one mentoring for fifth graders where they learn creative self-expression by writing their very own screenplay. At the end of the program, we have working actors come perform the plays live! Each session occurs for one hour once a week at individual school sites typically during their lunch hour. We especially need amazing volunteers like you for the following three schools that start next week:

El Rincon Elementary (11177 Overland Ave Culver City CA 90230)

Tuesdays from 1-2 pm beginning 2/19

Farragut Elementary (10820 Farragut Dr, Culver City, CA 90230)

Gallery Assistant @ The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery
Feb 24 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is seeking volunteers ("Gallery Assistants") to assist in the day-to-day operations of a contemporary art gallery.

Gallery Assistants will help with the daily operations of the gallery, including maintaining current exhibitions on view (e.g. safeguarding artworks), answering the gallery’s phone, greeting and engaging with visitors and ensuring the gallery’s policies are upheld during exhibition and non-exhibition hours.

Volunteers are valued members of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery team. Your volunteer efforts contribute to the successful operations of the gallery and visitor experience, and help further the gallery’s mission to be responsive to the human experience.

About Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery:
The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery’s mission is to be responsive to the human experience.

Established in 1954, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is the longest running institution in Los Angeles devoted solely to exhibiting art. The gallery focuses on artists from Los Angeles – in particular underrepresented artists whose work may not otherwise have found a platform. Our exhibitions, educational and public programs aim to inspire conversation about the contemporary issues and ideas that resonate most with the people of Los Angeles.

Many local artists who have exhibited at the gallery have gone on to become fixtures of the international art world, including Eleanor Antin, John Baldessari, Mark Bradford, Vija Celmins, David Hammons, Barbara Kruger, Kerry James Marshall, Senga Nengudi, Catherine Opie and Ed Ruscha. Today, the gallery continues to build on this rich legacy, operating as a site of discovery for outstanding work by the city’s most exciting artists, from recent graduates to practitioners with years of experience.

Offering free admission and programs, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery serves as a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of their income level, personal history, ethnicity, sexual orientation, immigration status, religion or gender identity.

NDVets Memorial Day 5K

We look for friendly, energetic volunteers to assist with our 5K run/walk. We need volunteers to help with everything from Check-In, staffing water stations, and cheering on walkers and runners along the course, to giving out medals at the finish line and cleaning up.

NDVets Annual Gala Dinner

For this event, we need focused and friendly volunteers to help with event registration and ushering.

Day of Service

Arrange a day when caring employees from your company or organization can come out to one of our many NDVets facilities and complete a volunteer project that includes jobs such as gardening, painting, cleaning, and assembling care packages.

Host a Fundraiser or Collection Drive

Add an opportunity for giving to your next company party or event by collecting donations for NDVets! Most donations are tax-deductible.

Lunches for our Welcome Center

Our Welcome Center is often the first stop for many of our veterans seeking help, and meals are much needed and appreciated! If your organization is interested in scheduling a day to donate bagged lunches for our veterans, please contact our volunteer coordinator at devvolunteer@ndvets.org.

Attend an NDVets event

When you support a New Directions for Veterans event, you directly support our mission and the veterans we serve. Take a look at our upcoming events to see what’s happening!

If you’d like to donate your time and talents to New Directions for Veterans

Please contact us, and we can discuss a volunteer opportunity that works for you! Call us at 310-914-4045 and ask for the Development Department, or email us at info@ndvets.org.
