Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.
If you have questions about our calendar, or would like to add a listing, please contact calendar@bigsunday.org or submit your event/opportunity via the button below.
Interested in doing something amazing for our veterans? In honor of Earth Day on April 22, join the good folks at Veterans Home of California, Chula Vista as they beautify their grounds. Up to 100 volunteers are needed to pitch in with much-needed tasks ranging from landscaping to weed pulling, all in an effort to make the campus look spectacular for the veteran residents who utilize this facility. Please bring garden gloves and small trowels to help out (as well as a whole lot of muscle), and take a bit of time to swap stories with veteran residents from all walks of life … many of whom have served in WWII. They love sharing stories with new faces! Volunteers must be 18 and older, please.
Join in this community effort to help beautify the preserve with Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Family activities are available on-site. RSVP at pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

On May 3rd of 2014, the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission shelter and warehouse in North Hollywood were destroyed by a fire. Now, almost two years later, with the help of their generous community, the warehouse rebuild is nearing completion and they are getting ready for a grand opening. They are actively engaging the community in helping to fill the new warehouse with donated clothing and household items.
On Saturday, April 30th, SFVRM is holding a “Fill The New Warehouse” event at 13422 Saticoy Street, North Hollywood. The items will then be sold in SFVRM’s thrift stores which support its shelter and outreach services to neighbors who are experiencing homelessness.
Here’s what you can do to help:
- Host a corporate or personal clothing drive
- Bring items to the new warehouse on Saturday, April 30th from 9am – 6pm
