We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Starting with a warm up stroll, Candyce Columbus, RYT, provides a gentle, stimulating and rejuvenating all-levels traditional hatha yoga practice, enhanced by the idyllic Arboretum.  Bring a blanket or towel, your yoga mat and water to sip.

Please meet PROMPTLY 15 minutes before the class in front of Main Entrance, outside of the Membership and programs office.

Candyce Columbus, 200-hour E-RYT

Yoga practice has been an integral part of Candyce’s life and well-being for more than 20 years. Since 2009 she has been sharing the knowledge passed on to her from many wonderful teachers. Regardless of fitness or flexibility she believes everyone can benefit from yoga. Her classes are well-balanced, varied, informative and enjoyable.  She is dedicated to her students and to helping them lead active, healthy lives.

From her first performed works in the 1980s, De Keersmaeker's activity has been consistent, yet always unexpected. Today she is one of the most prominent artists in contemporary dance. With Rosas: Then & Now, CAP UCLA presents a four-night showcase of two early and career-defining works alongside two recent pieces.

Reading to Kids @ Seven schools near Downtown Los Angeles

Reading to Kids is a grassroots organization dedicated to inspiring underserved children with a love of reading, thereby enriching their lives and opportunities for success in the future. To this end, Reading to Kids gathers on average 847 children and 376 volunteers at reading clubs on the second Saturday of every month at seven Los Angeles elementary schools.

Volunteer Orientation: Fullerton Arboretum @ Fullerton Arboretum (Nature Center)

Interested in volunteering at the Fullerton Arboretum?  If so, please see the volunteer opportunities listed below and sign up today!

  • Horticulture Volunteers work with Arboretum staff to maintain and develop the gardens, care for rare and local fruit orchards, propagate and grow plants in the Nursery and help visitors with their plant selections in the Potting Shed. In addition to learning more about environmentally responsible gardening and plant identification, horticulture volunteers help the Arboretum to grow every week! Horticulture monthly meetings are the 4th Wednesday at 9 am.
  • Education Volunteers help the Program Manager with environmental and historical education programs. Activities include assisting with classes, office support such as data entry and mailings; developing handouts; research and development of new class offerings.
  • Museum Docents greet visitors and give tours for the O.C. Agricultural & Nikkei Heritage Museum. Exhibits change throughout the year and docents receive training for each new exhibit.
  • Nature Center Docents greet weekend visitors and provide information about the garden, upcoming events and classes.
  • Nature Guide Volunteers provide guided tours of the Arboretum to K-12 classes, adult groups and weekend visitors. Nature Guides also provide science-based tours for the Children's Environmental Education Program and Junior High Environmental Education Program. Training is provided. Nature Guide monthly meetings are the 3rd Tuesday at 1 p.m.
